Rock Revolutionaries - The Chicago Women's Liberation Rock Band
Deepti Koduru, Madeleine Kim, Noa Kim-Cohen, Selasi Affram
Chicago, Illinois

Directors’ Statement:
“The Chicago Women’s Liberation Rock Band was a turning point, the first of its kind, and it changed the rock world. It defied the rock and roll stereotypes, broke barriers in activism for 2nd wave feminism, and it inspired young women such as ourselves to pursue their dreams. We created this film to embody the feeling that the band had back then now. We incorporated as many clips of music, images, videos, and stories from the band as we could. We even included clips from our very own interview with band member, Susan Abod. Our goal in creating this film was to share the stories of these women and show how they changed the world now. Their story, although mostly unknown, is intensely important and beautiful.”
Quotes from Reviewers:
“Love the emphasis on women's rights and struggle for recognition in Rock & Roll.”
“I very much enjoyed this project. As a historian by training myself, I thought the project demonstrated a rather strong command of the historical topic and the research it clearly took to grasp it. Well-done on this. I also thought the storytelling was cohesive and original. The message was clear, the historical accuracy was top quality.”
