Latest Generation Mentor Session: Detroit PBS -Exploring the Power of Place

Industry experts Robert Huck and David Crouse, co-creators of "Michigan: An American Portrait," will share their insights on documentary filmmaking in an engaging conversation with Matt Hamilton from the Michigan Learning Channel. This session will provide valuable guidance on crafting compelling stories that explore the rich history, culture, and diverse experiences of our communities. Matt is a secondary educator with more than a decade of experience working alongside content creators, community organizers, young people, and families. After teaching high school ELA and social studies in a variety of settings in southeast Michigan, Matt transitioned to his current role leading statewide programming with the Michigan Learning Channel. Matt enjoys collaborating with other PBS and Michigan organizations to bring media, project-based learning, and research-based instructional resources to teachers and learners across the state.

Bob Huck

Producer

During more than two and a half decades of filmmaking, Bob Huck has established himself as a producer, photographer, and editor of long form non-fiction with an emphasis on history, biography, and cultural programming for public television and platform release. Bob’s credits include producing and shooting the feature documentary The First Patient with the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, the public television special Tolkien & Lewis: Myth, Imagination & The Quest For Meaning, and the 3-part series The Reagan Presidency … which can currently be seen on Amazon Prime. Bob has worked in more than a dozen countries on locations as diverse as the Juneau Ice Field in Alaska, rural Kenya, the mountains of Peru, and the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. For Michigan: An American Portrait, Bob’s main titles were Co-Producer & Editor but also had the opportunity to share in the photography of the program with both land and aerial photography in numerous locations across the State.  

David Crouse

Producer

David Crouse is an Emmy Award winning independent film producer. Before Crouse became an independent producer, he worked in every capacity of broadcasting from on-air, to advertising, sales and promotion, and management. In 1989 Crouse formed Crouse Entertainment Group to capitalize on the explosive growth in media. The company’s original productions focus on religion, politics, biography, and the environment. Crouse, along with his long time producing partner Chip Duncan, has the distinction of being the first producers ever granted interviews with five former U. S. Presidents for a single documentary Positive Thinking: The Norman Vincent Peale Story (Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan and Bush).
